About us
The Adelaide Polocrosse Club:
The APC was established in 1989. Today we have around 20 members, including playing, social and life members. We are a family based club, child friendly, we have coaching levels from just learning to ride to experienced players. Our home base is The Adelaide Equestrian Centre located at the Lobethal Sport & Recreation Grounds in the Adelaide Hills. We take pride in our three well-maintained fields, many yards, large camping areas and other facilities. Our club sponsors are highly valued and supported throughout the playing season and the rest of the year.
The Game:
The game is a combination of polo, lacrosse, netball and rugby. It includes the horsemanship of polo, the racket skills of lacrosse, and the tactics of netball and rugby. Unlike polo, each player rides only one horse, leading to the sport's nickname, "king of the one horse sports". Polocrosse is a team sport, with teams of six divided into two "sections" of three players, with sections playing alternate "chukkas", the name given to the time intervals played. Polocrosse is played at many levels: club, state, national and international.
Polocrosse is a great spectator sport, as it is fast, strategic and the playing field isn't so big that you lose sight of the ball or the play. The weekend- long tournaments allow for players and their families and friends to camp out at the host club's grounds. At each club there are canteen and bar facilities, with dinner available and entertainment provided on Saturday night. This always makes for an enjoyable, family-friendly weekend.
